Pakistan has the legitimate claim to Kashmir

Pakistan has the legitimate claim to Kashmir . Indian govt by deceit took control of Kashmir during partition.

At the time, Britain divided its former colony on the Indian subcontinent between Islamic Pakistan and
Hindu-dominated India. The Hindu ruler of Kashmir, a former principality of 12 million people --
most of whom were Muslims, opted for India.

When the ruler requested Indian army protection in the face of rioting and advancing Pakistani troops
, the two nations fought the first of their three wars to a standstill.

Kashmir has been divided ever since, with India claiming its portion as an integral part of its territory,
and Pakistan insisting, with the backing of United Nations resolutions, that Kashmiris have the right to
choose whether they will be part of either country or independent

Pakistan is providing a moral, diplomatic and political support, and this support is deep-rooted in the minds
and hearts of the Pakistani people," says Ghulam Mohammad Safi, a leader of the All Parties Hurriet Conference,
a coalition of Kashmiri political parties. "People feel that Kashmir belongs to them.
They feel we have every right to come to the rescue of our brethren inside Indian-occupied Kashmir.
The Kashmir struggle is a legitimate struggle of self-determination," says Shireen Mazari, director of the Institute of Strategic Studies, a think tank financed by Pakistan's Foreign Ministry. "Why should we not support the right of people for self-determination?

"At the end the day, Pakistan is not going to abandon the Kashmiri struggle," Mazari says. "In that case, there can be no compromise."
